Couples Therapy in Gainsville, Florida
For partners who feel stuck and disconnected, longing to find their way back to the person who once felt like home…
Does Your Relationship Feel Like This?
You feel like a stranger next to the person who was supposed to know you, love you, and have your back.
Once upon a time, you were inseparable. All you wanted was to build a life together. Then came kids, careers, and the stress of everyday life—and somewhere along the way, the relationship you cherished most got pushed aside.
Over time, you started to feel more like roommates than partners.
But it’s not enough and it’s no longer okay.
That loneliness and distance might look like this:
Doubting whether your partner really has your back anymore
Conversations that quickly turn into arguments—or don’t happen at all
Spending more time apart than actually connecting
More conflict than connection in your day-to-day
Feeling tense, guarded, or on edge around each other
Attempts to reconnect that leave you even more stuck in the same painful place
You both know something isn’t working—but you’re not sure how to fix it or find your way back to each other.
Why Many Couples Struggle
So often, loneliness leads you to believe the problem is the individuals in the relationship—that either your partner needs to change, or you need to work on yourself to become more loving, more patient, more “enough.”
If one of you could just communicate better, be more attentive, heal old wounds, or grow in the right ways, then maybe things would finally feel okay again.
But focusing on individual growth only goes so far. Even when both of you are doing the work, the relationship itself can still feel strained, disconnected, and stuck.
What’s needed isn’t more finger-pointing—in either direction—but a shift toward working together, as a team. Two imperfect people, learning how to strengthen and protect the connection between them.
Without that shift—from working on each other to working on the relationship—couples can stay stuck for years, even decades, in the same painful patterns.
It’s not for lack of effort.
It’s that no one ever taught you how to stay connected when you’re hurt, frustrated, or shut down. That’s where couples therapy can help.
My Approach
Hi, I’m Marina.
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Gainesville, Florida, trained in the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Nonviolent Communication (NVC).
I’ve been in the kind of relationships where you keep having the same fight—again and again—and have no idea how to get out of it. Where, despite your best intentions, you keep missing each other in the same painful ways.
I know how easy it is to lose hope, and to feel stuck in a relationship that isn’t working, with no clear way forward.
Because I’ve been there, I bring a deep sense of compassion and understanding to this work. I’m with you as an ally—helping you see the patterns that keep you stuck, and guiding you toward a different way of relating.
One where both of you feel seen, heard, cared for, and respected.
Here’s what that looks like:
I redirect you toward each other
Instead of blaming or shutting down, you learn how to stay engaged—even when it’s hard. You learn to actually see each other
Not just words, but tone, body language, and the signals your partner’s nervous system is unconsciously sending. We use Nonviolent Communication
So you can express what you feel, reflect what you hear, and respond meaningfully without things turning into another fight. We work with physical connection—not just conversation
That includes small but powerful shifts, like eye contact, physical presence, and safe, intentional touch.
It’s simple. But it’s not easy. And for most couples, learning to do these things together is the missing piece.
